06/23/08 Downtown Gas Lease Update
The Downtown Gas Lease Committee has received encouraging offers from Finley Resources and XTO/Chesapeake. After reviewing these proposals, the Committee met last week with representatives from these companies to ask questions and further clarify their positions about what wells would be drilled, where they would be located, how water would be handled, market access, noise concerns and other factors.
This week, Committee Chair Floyd McKneely sent out a call to the operators for best and final offers. Once the response to this solicitation is received, we will begin working in earnest with the prevailing company on a lease that is in everyone’s best interests. We are hopeful that this work will be complete in a couple of months.
Once the Committee’s work is complete, you will receive word from us, with an explanation and endorsement of the final lease terms.
