Project for Public Spaces Heritage Park Final Report

Safety issues required the City of Fort Worth to close Heritage Plaza in 2007. The unique bluff-top terrain, complex Lawrence Halprin-designed plaza and the raw potential of the 112 acre Heritage Park has led a group of stakeholders to rally around the cause. While recognizing that the effort includes the park in its entirety, the plaza has been identified as Phase 1.
Setting the stage for design work, Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., with generous funding from the Amon G. Carter Foundation and technical assistance provided by the City of Fort Worth, engaged the Project for Public Spaces to conduct a workshop that would set a vision for how the park and plaza will be used in the future. What uses do we envision, what will people be able to do there…and what needs to be built…or not built…to accommodate them? The use vision crafted in the PPS and subsequent workshops has informed our design discussions and is at the root of our future work.
Solutions to topographic challenges, mechanical, electrical, water works, landscaping, access, parking, transportation and other issues need to be identified and detailed before work can begin. Fundraising for this scope of services is currently underway. For more information on the use vision, click on the PPS Report.
