Transportation Management
In January 1997, a feasibility study funded by Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds recommended that a Transportation Management Organization (TMO) be established to provided transportation-related services in the Central Business District (CBD) of Fort Worth. The Downtown TMO was created to provide a forum for employers, developers, building owners, local government representatives, public transit providers and others to work together to collectively establish policies, programs and services that address Downtown transportation issues such as Downtown access and circulation, the Coordinated Wayfinding Program, parking meter efficiencies, two-way streets, bike parking, bus shelters, Hyde Park and a host of other transportation issues.
The TMO is successful because multiple public and private entities cooperate and are able to accomplish more than any one entity could alone. DFWI provided services to create the TMO and continues to staff and operate the organization.
