A&M Law School rises in the ranks

It’s time for a little bragging:

The Texas A&M University School of Law in Downtown Fort Worth is getting very close to making it into the U.S. News and World Report list of the nation’s top 100 law schools.

Rankings released by the magazine on Wednesday showed the A&M school at No. 111, up 38 spots from its No. 149 seat last year.

That’s a pretty good leap for a young school.

Texas A&M purchased the law school at 1515 Commerce St. in 2013 from Texas Wesleyan University. Prior to that, A&M did not have a law school.

The school itself has been a Fort Worth institution since 1992.

In its area of specialty, intellectual property law, the school was ranked 14th in the nation by U.S. News this year, tied with the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University.

And for one more bit of perspective, the list shows the local school with annual tuition and fees of $33,092 for its 396 full-time students.

Compare that with the overall No. 1-ranked school, Yale University, at $58,050 a year for a full-time student. That’s almost $25,000 more a year.

And Texas A&M has announced it will lower its cost by more than $5,000 a year beginning this fall.
