Fort Worth Symphony names interim president

The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association has named veteran arts administrator David Hyslop as interim president starting July 24. He succeeds Amy Adkins who is leaving the FWSO after six years in the role of president to take the position as president of the All Saints Health Foundation.

“We are very fortunate that someone with David’s level of experience in orchestra management is available to assist the FWSO during this transition period,” said Mercedes T. Bass, chairman of the board. “Several members of the board of directors and the senior management team had an opportunity to meet with David last week, and we are confident that his tremendous expertise and knowledge, combined with his ability to build bridges, will be of great help to the orchestra.”

Hyslop’s 50-year career in arts management includes 32 years serving as CEO for three of the nation’s top symphony orchestras – Minnesota Orchestra (1991-2003), St. Louis Symphony (1978-1991) and Oregon Symphony (1971-1978). Since retiring from the Minnesota position, he has worked as a consultant to arts groups around the country, and has served as interim CEO of the Louisville Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and most recently, Dallas Summer Musicals.

“It will be my honor and pleasure to work with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra during this transition period,” said Hyslop. “My main goal will be to help all facets of the organization, after this most recent difficult period, to work together going forward with its mission to provide great music for the community it serves.”

Hyslop will remain as interim president until a permanent president is appointed. The search is expected to take less than a year, according to a Fort Worth Symphony news release. .
