19th Anniversary with Grand Opening of New Encore Theater
Fort Worth’s longest-running show provides an intimate venue for up-and-coming talent
Fort Worth, TX (June 21, 2016) – Critically-acclaimed comedy troupe Four Day Weekend celebrates its 19th year in business with the launch of a new performance venue, the Encore Theater. The grand opening for this second, smaller, independent theater is scheduled to take place on July 12, 2016 at 312 Houston Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
For the past 19 years, the 212-seat Four Day Weekend Comedy Theater has housed the Encore Lounge, a private room located off the main lobby used for private events, receptions, and a gathering place for guests prior to public shows. Tuesday, July 12th, this remodeled space will be launched as the Encore Theater, an intimate performance venue for Four Day Weekend’s Training Center House Teams.
“When we first began 19 years ago,” said Four Day Weekend founding member David Wilk, “it made sense to have a lounge where people could mingle and enjoy a drink before our public shows. But now, our Training Center has done so well and resulted in these terrific performing House Teams, we realized we needed to provide a performance space that would help develop young talent and foster the improvisational community. That’s when the Encore remodel project began.”
Room renovations include a new stage, lighting, sound system, and the theater’s own bar, as well as new tables and chairs providing seating for 50. The grand opening will begin with a space dedication by the Four Day Weekend founding members, followed by a House Team performance. This free event will include pizza and beer. Doors open at 7:30pm; event begins at 8:00pm.
Four Day Weekend’s five-level Training Center was founded to nurture and develop a growing interest in the art of improvisation. House Teams are comprised of Training Center graduates, advanced students, and teachers, and they often host guest teams from around the Metroplex. Regular House Team performances will take place in the Encore Theater every Tuesday at 8:00pm and will be free to the public.
