Holiday Season Coming Early This Year

August 7,2015

XTO Energy Parade of Lights Moving to the Sunday Before Thanksgiving

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and it’s coming to Fort Worth early this year! Get ready for yuletide greetings and jingle bell ringing as downtown is transformed into a holiday wonderland on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The 33rd annual XTO Energy Parade of Lights will now officially kick off the holiday season at 6 p.m. on Nov. 22 in an effort to improve parade access and parking to all in attendance.

Members of Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. took several things into account when making the decision to move the date of the parade, including parking, access to downtown and the local independent school districts’ academic calendars. Students at Fort Worth and Arlington schools will not have classes during the week of Thanksgiving, so the event organizers said having the parade on a Sunday should work well for everyone.

The theme for this year’s parade will be “Let the Season Begin” and will include antique cars, marching bands, equestrian units, horse-drawn carriages, troupes of carolers and more than 100 professionally-designed-and-produced floats, each with more than 12,000 lights. The parade route is 1.58 miles long and will wind through downtown Fort Worth, allowing everyone a glimpse at one of the top illuminated parades in the U.S.
