The Dean & DeLuca Invitational at Colonial’s thrilling finish is barely in the rearview mirror, and now Fort Worth golf fans have more reason to rejoice.

Topgolf representatives confirmed that Tuesday morning the company officially broke ground on its newest location, in the shadow of downtown. The 65,000-square-foot facility will be built near the southeast corner of Texas 121 and Interstate 35W.

“As of today, we are officially under way in Fort Worth,” said Zach Shor, Topgolf’s vice president of real estate development. “When looking at Fort Worth, there are temptations to go north by Alliance or further south, but we wanted to feed off the energy of the city and being located in the southeast quadrant of 35W and 121, we are offering easy access to those in Sundance Square and West 7th as well as those in Arlington and the Mid-Cities.

“Regionality is important and this gives all of the people who live in the western half of DFW a location to call their own,” Shor continued. “This particular location was also a unique opportunity for us because Topgolf requires such a large piece of land and we were pleased to get this spot on the river and so close to downtown that it will make us a part of the iconic Fort Worth skyline.”

There was no official ceremony and, much like the weather that plagued the D&D Invitational last week, the skies opened up shortly after they started to move the dirt.

“We like to put our time and resources into big grand openings rather than groundbreakings,” Shor said. “That being said, I’m excited to be officially starting the clock.”

Topgolf Fort Worth is on schedule to open in the first quarter of 2017.

Topgolf is a global sports entertainment venue with 24 locations worldwide including in Dallas, Allen and The Colony.
