Van Cliburn Memorabilia Display Opens in Downtown Fort Worth

May 16,2017

The Cliburn has installed a display of Van Cliburn memorabilia in the lobby of its offices at 201 Main Street, Suite 100 (the ground floor of the Wells Fargo Tower), in downtown Fort Worth. The public is invited to view these treasures for free during Cliburn office hours.

A few highlights of the exhibit are the first place medal Van Cliburn won at the 1958 Tchaikovksy Competition; his 1959 Grammy Award; his platinum record, for the first classical LP to sell 1 million copies; the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded by President George W. Bush in 2003; personal letters from Presidents Reagan, Clinton, and Obama; and a plaster cast of Mr. Cliburn's hands.

During the upcoming Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, held May 25–June 10, the display will be open extended hours, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily, including weekends. Regular hours will be 9 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays.

The display was made possible by the generosity of Thomas L. Smith, the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, and the William E. Scott Foundation.
