Keeping Downtown Safe
Did you know that Fort Worth is one of the safest large cities in the nation? By working together, public and private organizations deliver security that makes Downtown visitors and residents feel safe and comfortable. Through the Fort Worth Public Improvement District (PID #1) , Downtown property owners provide funding and support for several security programs:
Fort Worth Police Mounted Patrol Unit
It just feels right to see lawmen on horseback in Fort Worth. But these officers are not for show – they're a highly effective security presence Downtown. While Downtown is one of the safest areas of Fort Worth the PID encouraged the Fort Worth Police Department to institute a Downtown Mounted Patrol to increase and maintain the perception of Downtown security. The PID proudly supplies the patrol's vet supplies, horse feed, farrier needs, and tack.
Downtown Bike Patrol
Stroll around Downtown awhile and you're sure to see a member of the Downtown Bike Patrol on the watch. They help ensure that the Downtown police unit is both pedestrian-oriented and approachable. The PID promoted the establishment of the Downtown Bike Patrol and continues to support this group through various efforts.
Operation Partnership Security Network
This network is a cooperative communications program among public and private sector security forces, allowing all parties to stay up-to-date on safety issues that affect Downtown. It functions as a "neighborhood watch" that extends the effectiveness of everyone's security efforts. Downtown Fort Worth, Inc., the Fort Worth Police Department, and private security directors throughout Downtown share information through a multifaceted communications program which includes website, e-mail and fax communications as well as a monthly meeting of all involved parties. This unique approach helps to reduce criminal activity and maintain a safe Downtown.
In addition to these activities, the PID research staff regularly collects and analyzes crime data. And the PID maintenance staff provides additional eyes and ears on the street – all to make Downtown Fort Worth a safer place.
Homelessness is a big challenge in Fort Worth – one that we take very seriously. Learn more...
