Public Improvement District #1
PID stands for Fort Worth Public Improvement District #1. It's a special fund – financed by Downtown property owners – to help maintain and improve the center city.
In 1986 Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. (DFWI) was responsible for the establishment of the first public improvement district in the State of Texas. It marked the continuation and acceleration of Downtown Fort Worth's transformation into one of the most exciting urban areas in the nation. Today, you'll find districts like these all over Texas, and we are proud to have paved the way.
Property owners within the 335-block area pay a special assessment ($.10 per $100 of value) above their regular property taxes for a coordinated program of services in six different areas. This assessment is collected by Tarrant County and supplied to the City of Fort Worth. The City contracts with Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. to provide and manage services in Downtown.
