Details

William Thomas Strayhorn, born November 29, 1915, was an American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, and arranger who collaborated with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington for nearly three decades. His compositions include "Take the 'A' Train", "Chelsea Bridge", "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing", and "Lush Life". On this night Matthew Banks, a regular performer at the Lounge, celebrates all that talent that is Billy Strayhorn on his birthday, 110 years ago.
Matthew is a Dallas based jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and bassoonist. A native Texan, Matt specializes in Swing and other early varieties of jazz, often playing on instruments a hundred years old or more to evoke the sound of the era. Come by for the finest swing anthems of the 30s, frenetic Bebop of the 40s, gut-bucket Blues and more. Don't miss this special evening.
