Council to vote on sale of four Monroe Street properties

City Council will be asked to approve the sale of four City-owned properties on Oct. 13.

Nearly 1,600 employees have moved to City Hall, leaving City-owned properties empty or almost empty and available for sale. Four of these properties are: 900 Monroe St. (Gordon Swift Building); 908 Monroe St. (Gas Building); 910 Monroe St. (former Water customer parking lot); and 917 Taylor St. (employee parking lot).

All employees previously housed in the Gordon Swift and Gas buildings, except for Environmental Services, have relocated to City Hall. Environmental Services is scheduled to move in late October.

JUN Crown Properties has offered to purchase all four properties as a single transaction and in their as-is condition for $4.3 million with $50,000 in earnest money.

Before the closing date, the City will repair and reinstall the neon blue flame sign on the rooftop of 908 Monroe St. Going forward, the buyer will be responsible for upkeep of the sign.

The sale is expected to close by Nov. 5, subject to City Council approval.
