Downtown Fort Worth Inc. (DFWI) just bagged the Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for its T&P Passage project, a nod from the International Downtown Association that puts them on the international stage. This accolade isn't your run-of-the-mill participation trophy; it's a heavyweight recognition for their response to urban development, going above and beyond in both planning and delivery, per the City of Fort Worth.
The project, a joint effort between the City of Fort Worth, Lancaster TIF, Trinity Metro, the T&P Condo Association, and the U.S. Postal Service, has been turning heads with its fusion of function and culture in the heart of Fort Worth. The award was handed out after serious scrutiny by industry experts, who clearly think Fort Worth's got something special going on with this one, despite the usual bureaucratic dance of stakeholders.
What's the big deal about the T&P Passage project? Think enhanced connectivity—no more getting lost on the way to catch the TRE or TEXRail. It's more than just clear signs and a well-lit walkway; it's a slice of the city's soul, laid out for everyone to see. Historic displays and public art offer a crash course in Fort Worth's storied relationship with the railroad, injecting a bit of heritage into the daily hustle.
And it's not just about making the commute less of a headache. Artist Ariel Davis took a grey tunnel and turned it into 'Looking Up: A View of The Lone Star Sky', a mural that tips its hat to Texas skies, injecting even the gloomiest part of the journey with a bit of wonder, and yes, that's an odd choice for an underground scene.
