Fort Worth’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade and rally kicks off Monday, Jan. 19, and organizers say they’re expecting one of the biggest turnouts yet.

The Greater Fort Worth Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee will host the event, which brings together community groups, leaders and families from across North Texas.

This year’s celebration will start with a morning parade near the Fort Worth Convention Center and end with a community rally at Sundance Square. The parade and rally will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The chairperson of the MLK Holiday Committee, Krista Daniels, says the focus is on unity and honoring Dr. King’s vision in a tense moment for the country.

“We just want everybody to come together and commemorate what Dr. King did, which was stand for such social justice and equality,” she said.

If you’re planning to attend or want a sense of what to expect before you go, here’s what to know.

What’s the schedule for Fort Worth’s MLK Day parade?

The parade line up begins at 10 a.m. near the Fort Worth Convention Center, at 1301 Commerce St.

On-site registration opens at 8 a.m. and runs through 10 a.m. Online registration is also available and organizers encourage people to use it to avoid the morning rush.

Individual walkers can pay $25 online at Eventbrite.com or $30 on site. Group registration for 10 participants costs $108.

The parade itself will step off at 11 a.m. and head west on 9th Street, north on Houston, east on Weatherford, and finally south on Main Street before ending at Sundance Square for the community rally.

“There will be floats, horses, a battle of the bands — we’re going to have it all,” Daniels said. “Bring your families, bring your friends, and just expect to have a good time with us.”

What can I expect at the rally in Sundance Square?

The parade will wrap up in Sundance Square, where a community rally will continue the celebration.

Attendees can expect music, performances, and speakers reflecting on Dr. King’s legacy.

Daniels said the rally is meant to feel welcoming and reflective, especially in a time when many people are looking for connection.

“It seems like we’re being pushed back instead of moving forward, but this particular year, there is such a coming together of all nationalities,” she said. “He did say justice for one is really justice for all, so we’re excited to see everyone coming together.”

Where can I park for the parade and rally?

Downtown Fort Worth offers several public lots and garages within walking distance of the Convention Center.

Event organizers suggest arriving early because lots fill quickly on parade day. Fees vary by location and depend on the garage operator.

Rideshare or carpooling is encouraged to reduce congestion.

If you’re part of a float or bus group, you’ll need to follow staff instructions for your assigned staging area and exit route.

Are there any rules?

The MLK Committee notes several guidelines to help the event run smoothly.

  • Candy or other items can’t be thrown by walkers or from vehicles during the parade. Vehicles must remain separate from walkers in the lineup.
  • The rally at Sundance Square is meant to be a peaceful and inclusive space.
  • Political signs, promotional materials, or any type of political messaging aren’t allowed at the Plaza.
  • Registration for the event signals agreement with all rules and restrictions.
