Fort Worth's dining scene is lit, with loads of big openings - everything from a VIP steakhouse to a cool food truck that has found a permanent home.
Here's what's happening in Fort Worth restaurant news:
Toro Toro Latin Steakhouse opened in November with a spectacular party at its location at the Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth hotel. The restaurant represents a partnership between DiamondRock Hospitality and chef Richard Sandoval, known as the father of Modern Mexican Cuisine. Sandoval, who has more than 45 restaurant concepts around the globe, likes to combine authentic Latin ingredients with international flavors and inventive techniques to create one-of-a-kind concepts and cuisines that include modern and coastal Mexican, Latin-Asian, Peruvian and Pan-Latin. Toro Toro Pan Latin Steakhouse and Lounge Fort Worth will be he sixth location and the third Richard Sandoval concept in Texas; his other Texas restaurants include Ciclo in Austin and Bayou & Bottle in Houston.
Coco Shrimp, a popular food truck, opens its first brick-and-mortar location at 318 Bryan Ave. on December 2. Their signature dish is the Hawaiian-style shrimp plate served in four varieties, including the Coco Shrimp, with a crunchy coconut crust. Other menu items include shrimp tacos and mochi, the Japanese dessert. For decor, owners Jordan Barrus and Isaac Hadley, who met while attending college in Hawaii, are going for a backyard theme, with shiplap, old brick, and surfboards as a motif.
Great American Cookies and Marble Slab Creamery have opened a joint store Nov. 11 at 2701 Heritage Trace Parkway, #100, where they're serving cookies and assorted ice creams. Customers can purchase custom cookie cakes as well as ice cream sandwiches.
Taco Casa has opened a new location in Southlake at 2150 E. SH 114. The Texas-based Mexican food chain specializes in hard-shell tacos, nachos, burritos, and salads.
Rocket Fizz, the candy and soda shop chain, has opened a location in Grapevine just in time for the holidays. The store is at 317 S. Main St., in a space previously occupied by One Posh Place, where they're selling 400-plus brands of bottled soda and nearly 1,000 kinds of candy, plus gifts and trinkets. 817-421-8400.
Mod Super Fast Pizza, the Seattle-based chain serving individual artisan-style pizzas and salads, is opening a location in Fort Worth at 9605 Ten Gallon Dr. They used to be called MOD Pizza, but now they're Super Fast.
Jersey Mike's Subs, opened a new location in Fort Worth at 1625 Basswood Blvd. Franchise owners are John Durik and David Suckey. Founded in 1956, Jersey Mike's now has 2,000 restaurants open and under development nationwide. he chain is known for "the juice," its red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing.
Buffalo Wings & Rings at 2150 E. Lamar Blvd. in Arlington has launched limited-edition menu items for the winter that include a hard cider sampler with pretzel bites, seasoned potato wedges, broccoli, celery, and apples, dipped in hard cider cheese fondue; hard cider pretzel dip featuring pretzel bites and cheese fondue; and fried boneless wings with cranberry sauce and stuffing fritters. It's available through December 31.
Taco Cabana has debuted new holiday menu items including TC Chili made with ground beef and borracho beans, and topped with shredded cheese, sour cream, and sliced jalapenos, for $2.99; and a new chocolate cake for $1.99. A new frozen Tito's vodka cranberry is made with vodka, cranberry, and Sprite, and is $4, for a limited time.
Spiral Diner has expanded its hours and is now open on Mondays. Dallas-Fort Worth's original vegan diner used to be closed on Mondays. That said, the new hours are relevant only to the Spiral Diners in Denton and Fort Worth. Sorry Dallas.
