City Council will learn about the latest plan to maintain and enhance downtown Fort Worth at a work session on Tuesday, Oct. 10.

Why it’s important: The Downtown Strategic Action Plan, called Plan 2033, lists the 11 catalytic projects currently in the downtown development pipeline, responds to the current state of downtown and provides strategic steps for moving forward in four major goal categories:

  • Livable Neighborhoods.
  • Diversified Economy.
  • Great and Distinctive Places.
  • Seamless Connections.

This is the fourth consecutive 10-year plan for downtown Fort Worth and builds on several important documents:

  • Downtown Plan 2023 and previous plans.
  • City of Fort Worth Comprehensive Plan.
  • City of Fort Worth Economic Development Strategic Plan.
  • Several transportation plans.
  • Public Art Master Plan.
  • Parks and open space plans.

Plan 2033 was funded by the City of Fort Worth, Trinity Metro and DFWI. The planning team and committees included staff and volunteers from the funding partners, Tarrant County and a host of civic organizations. Interface Studio led the planning process.

Catalytic projects in various stages of construction, design and planning include:

  • The Omni Hotel expansion.
  • Fort Worth Convention Center Phase 1 and 2.
  • Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus expansion.
  • Heritage and Paddock parks.
  • Panther Island.
  • Butler Place redevelopment.
  • TEXRail expansion.
  • City Hall relocation.
  • Library site redevelopment.
  • Deco 969 apartment tower.
  • Lancaster connector to T&P platform.

Publication of Plan 2033 follows more than a year of community engagement activities that included interviews, surveys, social media platforms, public and personal meetings with partner organizations and seven volunteer subcommittees.

What happens next? Implementation is structured in a series of clear next steps and partnership coordination. In addition to describing the known changes that will occur and making specific recommendations, Plan 2033 is intended to be an agile roadmap that will help decisionmakers respond to unseen opportunities that will undoubtedly occur over the next 10 years.

Andy Taft, president of Downtown Fort Worth Inc., will present the plan to City Council on Tuesday, Oct. 10. A Council vote is scheduled for a week later, Tuesday, Oct. 17.
