If you’re wondering why there’s a house in the middle of Downtown Fort Worth’s Sundance Square, Habitat for Humanity is building it for a family in need. “When they come and partner with us we will underwrite the loan at a zero interest mortgage so a family can gain equity and change their life,” said Sandra Houston with Habitat for Humanity. She said the family will pay $650 a month with zero interest rate for a home they will own.

Houston said they started building homes there 10 years ago. “We thought let’s build this in the middle of Sundance Square businesses professionals are walking through and it turned into a tradition,” she said. She said the point of building it for everyone to see is to raise awareness for the need for affordable housing in Fort Worth. “We’ve had generous sponsors come a long the way and help to assist with costs,” Houston said.

The 3 bed 2 bath with a detachable garage will soon be home to a single mother of two. She says Whirlpool will also be donating a washer and dryer to help the family.

They will move the home into a Fort Worth neighborhood Monday, taking volunteers a little under a week to complete!
