For the 2017-18 Season, this series will feature Five Productions, 

performing November 24, 2017 through  August 26, 2018.

Each production with have 24 Performances over a five week period.

Jubilee’s Musical Gift for the Holidays!

 

Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with this Jubilee Theatre Christmas debut. Created in 2015 by Nate Jacobs–Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, this exciting family-fun musical is filled with your Christmas favorites from Motown, including Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and The Jackson 5 … all performed in that unmistakable Jubilee Theatre style. Of all the holiday entertainment choices this year, A Motown Christmas is your best bet by far to get you into the Christmas Spirit!

 

“A Motown Christmas” was created and first produced by Nate Jacobs at the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe in Sarasota, FL in December 2015.

The Year That Changed Everything, For a Family and a City

 

50 years ago… 1967. The world is shifting for two siblings, who are running an after-hours joint in their basement to make ends meet. But when a mysterious woman finds her way into their lives, tensions mount when dreams diverge, their tight-knit community is threatened and the streets erupt in violence in this riveting play set to a driving 60’s Motown beat.

It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues

From African chants and Delta spirituals to the urban electricity of a Chicago nightclub, from dusty backroads bluegrass to the twang of a country juke joint, It Ain’t Nothin’ but the Blues is a stirring retrospective of blues classics that summons the true soul of American music. Over two dozen musical numbers are included, among them “I’m Your Hoochie-Coochie Man,” “Goodnight, Irene,” “Fever,” “Walkin’ After Midnight,” and “Let the Good Times Roll.” Tony-Award nominated for Best Musical, It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues has played to rave reviews all over the country and is cherished as an original American art form.

The affluent, African-American LeVay family gather at their Martha’s Vineyard home for the weekend, and brothers Kent and Flip have each brought their respective ladies home to meet the parents for the first time. As the two newcomers butt heads over issues of race and privilege, longstanding family tensions bubble under the surface and reach a boiling point when secrets are revealed.

Blues in the Night

Set in a rundown Chicago hotel in 1938, this incredible musical revue focuses on three women’s relationships with the same “snake-of-a-man” and their interweaving stories told through the torch songs and blues of Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen and Alberta Hunter among others. Last performed on the Jubilee Theatre stage in 2010 and back by popular demand, this Tony-Award nominated musical features over twenty five songs with vocal arrangements designed to “bring down the house”!

Travel back in time for some of that old-time religion. A Gospel Singing Jubilee, filled with the heart and soul of cherished church favorites, sung by leading voices of the sacred music community of North Texas.  You’ll sing, sway and clap your hands with joy… but you’ll only try to stay in your seat!
