Less than a year after opening, a Sundance Square grab-and-go spot is calling it quits

In the Sack, a Dallas-based sandwich shop with gourmet wines and liquors known for free delivery, will close its Sundance Square store on Saturday, the shop announced via Twitter.

“Yes, sadly our last day in Sundance Square will be Saturday,” the tweet says. “We have really enjoyed our time here! We hope you enjoy our place as much as possible until then.”

The Dallas location will remain open.

Star-Telegram “Eats Beat” columnist Bud Kennedy, in retweeting the In the Sack post, pointed out that the shop has been hurt by expanding food and grocery delivery options. “Everybody delivers these days,” Kennedy notes.

In the Sack, which also had a small dine-in menu and grab-and-go prepared meals, opened in early October 2017 at 415 Throckmorton Street, replacing Oliver’s Fine Foods, which had been open since late 2011 in Sundance Square’s Sanger Lofts building. Oliver’s also offered dine-in and takeout with a small grocery store including beer and wine. A Mansfield location of Oliver’s remains open.

Since then, a Tom Thumb has opened on West 7th Street not far from downtown Fort Worth, and a two-story CVS pharmacy opened in June of this year, expanding grocery and convenience-store options in and near downtown Fort Worth.

In the Sack, and Oliver’s before it, were also in a stretch of Throckmorton already heavy with dine-in and takeout restaurants that draw good lunchtime crowds.
