A Dallas developer is breaking ground on a new hotel in downtown Fort Worth.

Jackson-Shaw is building the 252-room, 16-story AC Fort Worth Hotel on Main Street. The project is the first AC Hotel by Marriott in Tarrant County and will open late next year.

Dallas' Merriman Anderson Architects designed the high-rise with a combination of classical and modern exterior features. Austin Commercial is the general contractor. Financing for the development was provided by Simmons Bank.

"We believe the hotel's classic modern design, with its European soul and Spanish roots, will strongly complement the distinctive legacy and stylish sensibilities of downtown Fort Worth," Michele Wheeler, Jackson-Shaw president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The hotel will include a lounge with food service, a 24-hour wellness center and a full-service restaurant on the first floor.

Jackson-Shaw has built 60 million square feet of hospitality, industrial and residential developments since the company was founded in 1972.
