Single Tickets on Sale Now for the 2017 Cliburn Competition

Single tickets to the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition are now on sale. They are available online at Cliburn.org, by telephone at 817.212.4280, or in person at the Bass Performance Hall Box Office. Subscriptions will remain on sale for the Competition, which will take place May 25–June 10, 2017, at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. Patrons must be 10 years or older to attend.

The Cliburn Competition has been called “the most prestigious classical piano competition in the world” by the Chicago Tribune and “…a cross between the Miss America Pageant, the Olympic Games, the Academy Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize” by The Boston Globe. 

This May the Cliburn will welcome 30 of the world's finest pianists to Texas. The competitors, selected from Screening Auditions held in seven cities around the world, represent 16 nations:  Russia (6), South Korea (5), the United States (4), Canada* (3), Italy (2), Algeria*, Austria, China, Croatia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Poland, Romania, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom (*one competitor has dual Algerian/Canadian citizenship, and both nations are counted here). Preliminary Round (30 competitors, 10 concerts)

May 25–28, 2017

The world will be introduced to 30 extraordinary pianists who will each perform a 45-minute program that must include the commissioned work by Marc-André Hamelin.

Quarterfinal Round (20 competitors, 6 concerts)

May 29–30, 2017

The 20 quarterfinalists return to play a second 45-minute recital, without repeating any repertoire. In just two music-packed days, they'll show the jury what they're made of.

Semifinal Round (12 competitors, 9 concerts)

June 1–5, 2017

In five days, this round presents a perfect balance of 12 powerful, hourlong solo recitals and 12 performances of Mozart piano concertos, with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Nicholas McGegan. Get a deeper look at the top 12 competitors.

Final Round (6 competitors, 4 concerts)

June 7–10, 2017

The Competition reaches its climax as six finalists perform twice, showing their abilities in chamber music and in some of the most virtuosic piano concertos ever written. Assess the top six as they perform a concerto of their choice with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Leonard Slatkin, and a piano quintet with the Brentano String Quartet.

Awards Ceremony

June 10, 2017

Seventeen days after the Competition begins, the six finalists will eagerly wait for their names to be called as the medalists are announced. All three medalists will receive three years of career management, but only one will win gold.

Established in 1962, the quadrennial Van Cliburn International Piano Competition is widely recognized as “one of the world’s highest-visibility classical-music contests” (The  Dallas Morning News) and remains committed to its original ideals of supporting and launching the careers of young pianists, ages 18–30.
