XTO tells Texas Workforce Commission 1,200 jobs will be moved to Houston by July 1

XTO Energy, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil since 2010, recently told the Texas Workforce Commission that 1,200 employees will be gone from its downtown Fort Worth headquarters and moved to near Houston by July 1.

In June 2017, XTO Energy announced it would relocate to the ExxonMobil campus to the Houston area. It filed required paperwork with the Workforce Commission May 8 and made public Tuesday.

XTO spokesman Jeremy Eikenberry said Wednesday another 400 employees working on special project won't be relocated to Houston until mid-2020.

"After those moves are complete, we anticipate there will be approximately 350 Central Division employees who will remain in Fort Worth," he said.

About 65 employees were either not offered positions in Fort Worth or chose not to move to Houston, he said. Those employees will be laid off effective June 30 and will receive a severance, he said.

When it announced the move, XTO began putting its portfolio of six buildings and other land on the block. Several of the properties have since sold, among them the 14-story Petroleum Building at Sixth and Throckmorton streets in January to Sundance Square.
