Fort Worth, Dallas mayors plan ovation for front-line workers

City of Fort Worth buildings will be illuminated, and residents are encouraged to honk or clap in celebration of first responders at 7 p.m. April 16.

The tribute is called “DFW Celebrates Our Heroes” and is a collaboration between Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and other metroplex mayors, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said.

“I want to invite [everyone] to join us,” she said. “Come out in your yard; get out on your balcony; and clap and honk, as we celebrate our first responders and our hospital workers.”

The five-minute tribute is meant to thank those individuals in the community who are serving others during the COVID-19 pandemic, Price said.

The downtown Fort Worth area, including a number of buildings and bridges, will also be illuminated with blue lighting. Businesses can illuminate their own facilities in blue, if possible, and residents are encouraged to turn on porch lights.

Mayor Price will also join Fort Worth Fire Chief Jim Davis, Police Chief Ed Kraus and City Manager David Cooke for a visit to Fort Worth hospitals as part of the ovation for front-line workers.

“Until then, y’all stay home, and y’all stay safe,” Price said.
