Fort Worth Park & Recreation Director Richard Zavala has been appointed to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission’s Urban Outreach Advisory Committee.

The Urban Outreach Advisory Committee was established to provide the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department advice on the range of programs and initiatives affecting urban populations, the demographic variety of urban populations in the state, and the conservation and management of organizations that serve urban populations.

The committee consists of up to 24 people representing a cross-section of the largest urban areas in Texas. The committee does not have authority to establish department policy but submits an annual report to the department, which includes, among other things, a summary of its recommendations.

The City Council feels that membership on the committee would help to ensure that a municipal perspective is included when considering the needs of the Fort Worth area.

“This is a great opportunity for Fort Worth. The fact that the commission chair invited me to serve is a reflection of this great community, and I’m humbled to get the call on behalf of our city,” Zavala said.

Zavala’s term runs through June 30, 2022.
