Share your thoughts on the selection of a site for a proposed African American Museum and Cultural Center during a public forum at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Como Community Center, 4660 Horne St.

A steering committee is considering multiple sites for the proposed institution. In response to a recommendation from a panel of museum experts, the steering committee has focused its attention on potential sites in the Historic Southside and in the Cultural District.

Last fall, the City of Fort Worth hosted a multi-day workshop led by a team of nationally recognized experts in the field of museum development and operations, particularly museums focused on African American culture and art. The workshop was organized by a local steering committee to help determine whether Fort Worth should pursue a feasibility study for a museum, as well as program direction and funding. The workshop was overseen by a 21-member steering committee co-chaired by Dr. John Barnett, a distinguished pediatric dentist and art collector, and Andy Taft, president of Downtown Fort Worth Inc.
